February 23, 1945 . . . Atop volcanic Mt. Suribachi, Marines of the 3rd Platoon, Easy Company, 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division, hoist the first American flag over Iwo Jima. As Old Glory breaks the skyline, a tremendous roar of shouts and whistles will emerge from the Marines on the beaches and the sailors at sea. Later, this flag will be lowered and a replacement raised. Although a photo of the second flag would be cherished by the home front, the first flag belonged to the heroes of Iwo Jima.

Ron Stark is the son of legendary American artist Bruce Stark. Ron has been creating quality sports art since 1991 and has rightly developed recognition over the past few years as one of the premier sports artists in The United States.

Whether he is using pencil graphite or oil on canvas, Ron’s incredible gift of being able to portray his subjects with an unerring accuracy to timelines of event offers the viewer a real journey of nostalgia back to a simpler and more innocent time, before the mass media and general hype of today’s society.

Lawrence Zupan, former agent for Peter Max, remarked that “Ron’s works have a Norman Rockwell-like quality and detail so fine that each piece is filled with emotion.”

Most recently, Valor Studios were able to commission Ron Stark's first military painting, "Iwo Jima, the First Flag," after seeing Ron's baseball artwork. "baseball history and military history have strong commonalities. The subjects of both are typically young men in their early 20’s. Baseball bats have the same wooden grain as rifles. Uniforms faded from sliding to the plate have the appearance of combat-weathered dungarees. The difference between the two is that of life and death. One genre represents a game, the other, war.

We knew right away that Ron Stark had the seriousness and talent to make the transition to military art and we're proud to debut his first of many," commented Adam Makos, Publisher.
